In this article in The Rules Series, we show how to configure the rules engine to use the Minimum Length action.
How the Minimum Length action works
Overview
The minimum length action works by changing the timesheets that match the conditions, to set a minimum length for each timesheet that matches the conditions.
Configuration options
Name | Description | Data Type | Example value |
---|---|---|---|
Number of hours | The minimum number of hours for each timesheet that matches the conditions | Number | 8 |
An example
Using our example, let’s look at how an employee could benefit from this action. We want to ensure that our employees are paid a minimum of four hours for a shift, even if the shift was only two or three hours in length.
In situations where timesheets have been grouped, the minimum length action ensures that the total length of all timesheets in the group meet the threshold. If the total length of all timesheets in the group does not meet the threshold, the end time of the last timesheet in the group is extended to meet the threshold.
For the longer shifts, the costing does not change the shift length:
Notes
This action changes the timesheets that match the conditions that relate to the action, but does not change the matches, or change pay items.
This action should be used in conjunction with other actions that follow it, to take advantage of the altered timesheets.
On groups
The minimum length action is aware of groups. If timesheets have been grouped, the minimum length action asserts that the length of the collected group of timesheets meets the minimum length requirement. If the combined length of all timesheets is less than the required length, the last timesheet in the group is extended to meet the minimum length.
